Sao Chang Government College, erstwhile called Tuensang College was named after the then Nagaland Minister of Transport & Communication and PHED, Late Sao Chang, the most pivotal among its founding members, the cherished aspiration for higher education of the people saw its light with the humble beginning of night-shift college in 1973 at a designated temporary building at Tuensang Town. With the growing enrollment of students and to accommodate the needs of higher education in large perspective the college was elevated to a regular day-shift college. It was taken over by the Government of Nagaland in April 1983 and in its march forward to a new stride, the degree level science stream was inducted in the curriculum in 2005.
Shifted in the year 1996, the college now has its own permanent at a distance of 9 kilometers away from Tuensang Town. Having been located admist splendid and lofty mountain ranges and a pervading atmosphere of serenity the college is ideal and conductive to be the center of higher learning.
The college is -co-educational. It imparts education in Arts and Science streams at the degree level. It is affiliated to Nagaland University.
